Salamu Alaikum (Peace be upon you). I wanted to bring up the one thing that propagandists keep on saying about Muslims and Islam. I am talking about Surah 2:191. What these propagandists don’t tell you is the verse before. They make it seem like Muslims just want to kill Christians and Jews. This is not the case. Let me share the whole verses with you to clear this up.

Quran

Surah 2:190
And fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not commit aggression; God does not love the aggressors.

Surah 2:191
And kill them wherever you overtake them, and expel them from where they had expelled you. Oppression is more serious than murder. But do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque, unless they fight you there. If they fight you, then kill them. Such is the retribution of the disbelievers.

Surah 2:192
But if they cease, then God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Surah 2:193
And fight them until there is no oppression, and worship becomes devoted to God alone. But if they cease, then let there be no hostility except against the oppressors.

The truth about the verse

As you can see, it is not talking about Christians or Jews. The verse(191) is talking about people who are aggressing and fighting Muslims. It says to fight back, defend ourselves until the aggressors stop fighting Muslims. Propagandists don’t share this part because they try to make it seem like Muslims want to fight and kill anyone who is not Muslim.

People claiming to be Muslim

The suicide bombers, people that attack innocent people, murderers, rapers, and all others that commit acts of terrorism are not Muslims. They twist the above verse to justify their actions. This is not Islam. This is why predominate Muslims countries fight back and condone these acts.

Conclusion about a misconception on Islam

I hope the article cleared this misconception that the propagandists use from the Quran. Muslims are peaceful unless oppressed and fought against. Unlike Christianity, turning the cheek is absent in Islam. Muslims DO believe that Jesus is the Messiah. However, we do not believe in not defending yourselves. The 1% out of 1.5 billion Muslims are committing acts of terrorism. This is not Islam and they will be punished on the Day of Judgement.
